Rose Banksia Life Cycle

A long horizontal painting that maps the life cycle of the rose banksia across a single continuous landscape of color, flowing left to right through cool blues and a sun-burst into golds, greens, and a dense field of warm orange pattern. Organic line and dotted texture suggest seed, bloom, decay, and regeneration.

Reflection

I treated the banksia’s life cycle as a piece of music that had to be read across a single sweeping panel rather than frame by frame. Working at that width forced me to think about pacing — how the eye travels from the cold blue of dormancy through the burst of the sun into the hot, teeming orange of seeding. The repeated dots and curling lines became a kind of biological handwriting. Painting it taught me patience and how rhythm in mark-making can carry narrative without a single word.
