Neo-Expressionism (inspired by Basquiat)

A process video documenting the making of a neo-expressionist painting in the lineage of Jean-Michel Basquiat — raw mark-making, scrawled symbols, crossed-out text, and high-contrast color built up in fast, gestural layers. The video form captures the urgency and revision a finished still would hide.

Basquiat works because nothing is precious — he writes, crosses out, and lets the correction stay visible, which makes the painting feel alive and in-progress forever. Filming my own version let me keep that energy on record: you can watch where I hesitated, painted over, and committed. As a designer I am trained to hide the mess and ship the clean artifact, so deliberately preserving the process was the whole point.
