Cossacks Remix (after Kandinsky)
A reinterpretation of Kandinsky’s “Cossacks,” rebuilt with concentric ringed wheels, diagonal lances, and scattered dotted halos across a warm ochre ground. It keeps Kandinsky’s logic of marks-as-events but pushes the surface toward thick impasto texture and my own red/green/yellow color signature — between homage and appropriation.

Remixing Kandinsky was a way to study how he turns a battle into pure rhythm without ever describing it. I traced his compositional skeleton — those galloping diagonals and circular bursts — then overpainted them in my own vocabulary until the original dissolved into texture. You only understand a master’s decisions when you are forced to make them yourself. That appropriate-to-learn method runs through almost everything in this folder.
