Ocean acidification is almost impossible to picture, so my whole challenge was making an invisible chemical process feel visceral and immediate. I was drawn to it precisely because it gets so little attention compared to more visible ocean threats. Working within Bow Seat’s Ocean Awareness Contest connected me to a community of young people who believe art can move people to protect the sea — and left me certain that some of the most dangerous crises are the quiet ones we never learn to see.
