Clay Model — Decomposition Study

A comparative material study pairing a sculpted gray clay form against a clump of real decaying organic matter — leaves, twigs, and debris — mounted side by side. The clay reinterprets the tangled, fibrous chaos of natural decomposition in a single neutral material, isolating form and texture from color.

I was fascinated by how decay organizes itself — the way rotting leaves and twigs knot together into something both random and structural. Sculpting that chaos in flat gray clay stripped away the seduction of color and forced me to study pure texture and tangle. Setting my version right next to the real thing kept me accountable to nature rather than to a prettier invention.
